LIFE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

This month I changed my life in the city to life in the countryside. My brother-in-law and I went to a village called Nishiki in Tamba, Hyogo, Japan. The first time was on November 3, where I harvested astringent persimmons and some sweet potatoes. We got some cloudy and raining weather in the morning and clear sky in the afternoon. I harvested the persimmons in the rain, after the rain I harvest the sweet potatoes and I trimmed some weeds, too. That made me think how hard life in the country is, people have to work day in, and day out no matter what kind of weather they have.

The second time was on November 29, where we had a BBQ, did some weed trimming, and this time I harvested sweet persimmons. It was fun for me because I was just visiting, but for the people who live over there, life is not easy specially if they depend on the land for their survival.

I would like to live in the country instead of the city, but the conditions must be more favorable, I mean I don’t want to depend on the land only, but be able to work the land, eat what I produce, and have other form of income for my survival. To be a countryman and live off the land is not an easy thing, you have to like it and have the desire to thrive where you choose to live.

VIDA NO CAMPO

Este mês troquei minha vida na cidade pela vida no campo. Meu cunhado e eu fomos a uma vila chamada Nishiki, em Tamba, Hyogo, Japão. A primeira vez foi em 3 de novembro, quando colhi caquis adstringentes e batatas-doces. Pegamos um tempo nublado e chuvoso pela manhã e céu limpo à tarde. Colhi os caquis na chuva e, depois, colhi as batatas-doces e também capinei o mato. Isso me fez pensar em como a vida no campo é difícil; as pessoas têm que trabalhar dia após dia, independentemente do clima.

A segunda vez foi em 29 de novembro, quando fizemos um churrasco, capinamos o mato e, desta vez, colhi caquis. Foi divertido para mim, pois eu estava apenas visitando, mas para as pessoas que vivem lá, a vida não é fácil, especialmente se dependem da terra para sobreviver.

Eu gostaria de morar no campo em vez da cidade, mas as condições precisam ser mais favoráveis. Quero dizer, não quero depender apenas da terra, e claro quequero poder cultivá-la, comer o que produzo e tambem ter outras fontes de renda para minha sobrevivência. Ser um homem do campo e viver da terra não é fácil; é preciso gostar e ter o desejo de prosperar onde se escolhe viver.
